Frequently Asked Questions

All dogs use their nose / olfactory to take in their environment, that is how they see the world.  Usually when dogs go out, the first thing they do is sniff a lot.  Once they are done with that they are ready to walk.  A walk gives them a cardio vascular work out that calms their mind.

Here at DOGMA dogs play and socialize.  A walk is a different activity.  It gives the pups the opportunity to breath, zone out and exercise.  Once they return back they are of calm mind.

All walking services that we offer potentially involves another dog(s).  Younger dogs learn from the seasoned veterans how to walk in a pack, on a leash and how to lead.  Dogs surprise us and sometimes a little Dachshund might become the alpha lead with other larger dogs in the group.

You give us instructions how to enter your home, if there is a doorman, buzzer other details.  Clients that use the home service frequently are either at home during pickup/drop off or we have keys to the apartment.

You may give us instructions where to leave the leash, leave the lights on and put out water and food.

You can schedule the home services directly through your DOGMA portal.

The 2 Hour Power Walk is a group walk, where we use one human walker to up to four dogs.  As a group they get walked one hour out and one hour back on the banks of the Hudson River.  The boardwalk is super dog friendly.

The dogs get hydrated and treats at the halfway point.

What DOGMA has observed:  Consistent signups have shown visible improvements such as: No leash biting, no jumping all over the place and peacefulness.

Generally we use the dogs leash.  Our walkers like to use a slip lead.  This gives the dog the confidence that the human pack leader is in control.  It is also the safest leash for pack walks.  Harnesses have the drawback of the dogs being able to back out of it and free themselves from it.  However, if you prefer that we use your leash / harness we will follow your instructions.

A session is thirty minutes long,  but we are leaving it up to the dog to give us the signals when they are done.  If this the first time, the fitness expert will use toys or a treat to cajole the dog to move forward.

Your pup will enjoy the undivided attention of our in house fitness expert.  This is a one on one session with no other pups involved.

Yes.  Any dog that walks and/or runs can use the treadmill.  Any size dog can do it.  From a little frenchie, chihuahua to a German Shepard, Husky or Samoyed.  Australian Shepherds and other working dogs love the mill.

All dogs walk.  But some dogs need to run.   This service offers your pup the opportunity to go on a full out run for as long as they want.

Our dedicated fitness expert will gently introduce your pup to the treadmill.  This is a one on one session without any other dogs.  The treadmill is non-motorized and only moves when your dog moves.

DOGMA started this service because we observed that active dogs require more activity than walks and play with other dogs.  Just like humans, dogs that run have a more settled mind which in turn makes their day a richer experience.

The treadmill is non-motorized and powered by the dog only.  When the dog starts walking / running the belt starts moving.  There are no electronic motors parts of the treadmill.   If the dog decides to stand still or lay down they are free to do so.  The moment the dog slows and/or stops the belt stops.   There is an attendant dedicated to the treadmill the entire time.  The dog will not be left alone as long as they are on the treadmill.  Also, the treadmill can be slowed down by hand in case the dog is going too fast too soon.  There are also mechanical breaks just like bike breaks that the attendant can use to slow down the belt.

One 30 minute session is $30.  This is not part of any other services.  The Treadmill session is its own service.  Your pup will enjoy the focused attention of the fitness expert we have on staff.
