Born in Tokushima, Japan, Izumi had begun his career as a fashion producer and followed his ambitions to New York City. Alone and far from friends and family, he got a dog, Juju, and the deep bond they formed inspired him to change careers. His exceptional eye and instinctive way with animals, coupled with years of training, have made Shiro an accomplished and in-demand groomer.
Jun and Shiro quickly became friends (along with Koharu and Koyuki) and often talked about their ideal grooming and day care studio. When the perfect space became available downtown—fittingly, a former jazz club—Jun moved quickly. She asked Shiro, who has been grooming Koharu for 12 years, to join her in creating the kind of place they would bring their own dogs.
